Ludei Unveils 'The CAAT' Open Source JavaScript-Based Game Engine

Popular HTML5 game development platform, Ludei, is set to unveil today a new tool called "The CAAT," which should greatly improve Ludei as a whole.

Short for Canvas Advanced Animation Toolkit, CAAT features pre-designed code snippets which should reduce product time to market drastically. Best of all, the CAAT engine is completely open source, allowing developers to use and enhance it as they will.

"The CAAT has always been our secret weapon, quietly sitting in the background of our development stack, waiting to be set free on developers," noted Ludei president Joe Monastiero in a news release. "It basically completes version one of our platform – CocoonJS for API acceleration and enhancement; the cloud compiler for cross-platform builds; our monetization engine for bridging native payments and ad networks; and now our CAAT game engine. If someone does not believe that HTML5 works for performance gaming, don't give away your source code. Contact us first. Seriously."

The CAAT works with Canvas, CSS (News - Alert) and WebGL and is a "JavaScript-based, multi-instance, director-driven Scene Graph Manager." Furthermore, this complete gaming framework features helpful elements such as on-screen entities, custom matrix stacks, game loop hooks, scenes, scene transitions, affine transformations and pixel perfect on-screen entity identification, to name a few.

The CAAT was created by Ludei CTO Ibon Tolosana and has already been used to deploy a number of games, including Ludei's Sumon, a number guessing game for iOS and Android, and Google's Chrome browser and Facebook (News - Alert).

The CAAT is available for download here.

Last month at E3 2012, Ludei demonstrated the latest version of its CocoonJS mobile HTML5 and JavaScript development platform, which allows developers and publishers to accelerate HTML5 game performance "by over 1000 percent." As part of the demonstration, Ludei announced that the popular game engines ImpactJS and Construct 2 now integrate with CocoonJS.
