Coriad Announces New Server for Storing Big Data in Cloud

Earlier this week, management at Coriad announced it has released a new product that they have dubbed the Coraid ZX-Series family of NAS servers.

The new Coraid ZX-Series family of NAS servers is designed for companies hoping to use them on the cloud for big data storage applications and video storage. The technology combines Coraid’s EtherDrive technology with the Oracle (News - Alert) Solaris ZFS file system to create a system that is highly scalable.

“Organizations are increasingly challenged to provide predictable, cost-effective file performance in the face of uncontrolled data growth,” said Carl Wright, executive vice president at Coraid. “By extending our product family to include a best-in-class NAS offering, Coraid can meet that challenge with a unified storage solution that takes full advantage of the scalability and performance of Ethernet SAN.”

The system is marketed as ideal for both 3D video formatting and dealing with extremely large sets of data, and is well prepared for use in high-data use applications.

One of the suggested applications of the system is consumer behavior analysis, where information covers a lot of different variables on a large number of subjects at once in order to detect trends.

The ZX-Series is built with this kind of heavy use in mind.  But how well does the system actually scale? “Our research confirms that scale-out storage designs built on Ethernet align well with the evolving architecture of the virtualized data center,” said Roger Cox (News - Alert), research vice president at Gartner. “Functions such as hybrid storage pools, data deduplication and compression optimize storage utilization, thus reducing acquisition costs and improving total cost of ownership (TCO).”

Parties interested in the technology should contact the company directly.
