Eltek Unveils New CAN Modules to Expand DC Power System Monitoring Capabilities

A controller area network (CAN) is suited to the many high-level industrial protocols embracing CAN and ISO-11898:2003 as their physical layer. Its price, performance and dependability offer excellent flexibility in system design.

Recently, Eltek introduced a family of five new controller-area network (CAN) modules that facilitate its Smartpack and Smartpack2 controllers to monitor a whole range of power-related systems from a single controller.

The company has stated that based on midpoint or block measurements, the Battery Monitor has four voltage measurement inputs used for battery symmetry monitoring. The Battery Monitor also has inputs for monitoring one battery shunt and battery breaker.

Configuration of the CAN nodes is plug and play. This can be done with the help of the user display on the Smartpack controller or by using Eltek's WebPower and PowerSuite software tools.

The Load Monitor Module allows site operators to keep an eye on individual distribution breakers. Apart from monitoring up to eight fuses, it can also connect up to eight current shunts. It can also be used for both positive and negative distributions.

“The Smartpack controllers are state-of-the-art and are trusted by telecom providers and industrial companies worldwide to reduce operations costs while getting maximum service and uptime from their DC power systems and batteries," said David Leal, Eltek vice president of North American sales. "The new controller CAN nodes extend Smartpack's intelligence to more parts of the DC power system, making it more convenient to manage these other power system components.”

The company recently bought a new Orbotech Paragon Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) System for increasing capacity and shortening production time and improving product time-to-market. Eltek is an Israeli manufacturer of printed circuit boards, the important circuitry of most electronic devices. It also deals in the complex high-end of PCB manufacturing, i.e., HDI, multilayered and flex-rigid boards.
