ActiveState Announces Availability of Stackato 2.0

ActiveState stated that with its newly released Stackato 2.0 application platform, enterprises can build a private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) that is more agile, flexible and secure. The new solution also helps users have a better ability in governing their cloud without impeding progress.

ActiveState explained that from the desktop to the datacenter, the Stackato Enterprise Private PaaS makes it easy to develop, deploy, migrate, scale, manage, and monitor applications on any cloud. Based on the Cloud Foundry open source project, Stackato has been extended and hardened to nimbly meet the ever changing demands of enterprises. The PaaS service can be written using any language on any stack on any cloud.

The newly unveiled Stackato 2.0 release reportedly extends Stackato’s market leadership in PaaS polyglot compatibility and lets users install .NET (News - Alert) apps to Stackato through technology integration with the Iron Foundry platform. By integrating Iron Foundry with Stackato, it is now possible to make Windows DEAs available on any Stackato cluster with the ability to run the full spectrum of .NET Web Applications, SQL Server, and more. The combination of Iron Foundry and Stackato supposedly places the Microsoft (News - Alert) application stack on an even footing with the Linux-based stacks.

In addition to .NET, Stackato supports applications coded in enterprise development languages like Java, Ruby, Python, Perl, PHP, Node.JS, Clojure, Scala, Erlang and more.

“As private PaaS goes, nothing comes close to Stackato’s enterprise development feature set. Stackato 2.0 delivers the broadest language support, the most flexible deployment models and unparalleled production environment simulation. For enterprise developers using Stackato, it’s not a question of if you can be agile. It’s how agile you want to be”, commented Jeff Hobbs, CTO and VP of engineering at ActiveState, in a press release.

The company added that users can avail the Stackato 2.0 in Enterprise and Micro Cloud editions and the solution is now available in Amazon EC2 and will soon be made available on HP Cloud Services.
