Mattersight Selects Pure Storage FlashArray

Constant rises in bandwidth have yielded the creation of huge data volumes every moment across the globe, which has in turn boosted the market need for enhanced and heavier data storage solutions.

Pure Storage, a provider of all-flash enterprise storage solutions, has announced that its Pure Storage FlashArray FA-320 array has been selected by Mattersight, a company that offers Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert))-based enterprise analytics solutions, for real-time collection and analysis of its data in an enhanced manner.

The company specializes in offering all-flash enterprise arrays which are around 10x faster and 10x more space and power efficient than the legacy disk-centric arrays, and that too at relatively lower costs. Especially suitable in applications such as server virtualization, desktop virtualization or ‘VDI,’ database and cloud computing, the Pure Storage FlashArray proves to be helpful in a range of high-performance environments.

With the help of all-flash storage arrays by Pure Storage, Mattersight will now be able to enhance the storage process of its huge databases, off-load most of its I/O load from the legacy Tier 2 storage and considerably shorten the analytics processing time as well.

More than 70 trillion data attributes are captured, over two million algorithms applied and around 250 billion computations are executed to process more than 350 TB of data every day by Mattersight, only to ensure that its customers are offered contextually accurate and latest information so that they can take better decisions as far as their clients are concerned.

Using its Business Monitoring Engine, Mattersight takes unstructured conversations across all channels into account, and captures, analyzes and generates valuable business insights for its clients so that they can have a better idea of customer and employee behavior.

The company deploys a large number of analytics applications upon its consolidated fiber channel SAN array, and the Mattersight Business Monitoring Engine is one of them that consumed almost all the I/O capacity of the SAN array, giving rise to a number of issues for other applications running on the same platform.

“Since our core competency is making information valuable, improving our ability to collect data, perform analytics and use these insights to improve customer experience and employee performance is critical,” commented Jeff Geltz, CIO at Mattersight. “The Mattersight Business Monitoring Engine is an I/O hungry application, and it was clear that traditional disk-based storage just wouldn’t allow us to scale our business.”

In May 2012, Pure Storage announced the general availability of its new FlashArray 300 Series, which includes version 2.0 of the Purity Operating Environment. The FlashArray provides higher resiliency through active/active high availability, FlashCare Technology and an enhanced Data Integrity Fabric. It has also been enhanced to include always-on encryption with zero key management, a new Web user interface, command line interface and VMware vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) support.
