AppFog Powers One-Click Migration Between Vendors

Vendor lock-in is a big problem for the cloud as it makes it extremely hard to move between different cloud vendors. Cloud lock-in is measured by proprietary APIs that only work with one vendor’s system and the inability to easily move from any one cloud vendor because of proprietary features is a major concern.

To overcome this problem, AppFog is empowering a new generation of developers with multi-language PaaS by letting users avoid vendor lock-in by installing and scaling their applications economically.

By making the installation and moving apps between cloud vendors easier, the AppFog PaaS supports Azure, AWS, HP Cloud and more. Allowing numerous developers to quickly and easily deploy applications to the cloud, AppFog is a complete cloud-based PaaS solution that supports PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, Node.js, .NET (News - Alert) and Perl that automates the deployment, scaling and management of cloud applications by combining with its users to understand pain points, the company stated in a press release.

“When you are building modern applications, dependencies on locked-in platforms can be a kiss of death as you are beholden to bad price changes, and outages,” said Lucas Carlson, founder and CEO of AppFog. “At AppFog, we’re champions for the developer. We know developers need the freedom to not only deploy their apps where they are best deployed – but also to be able to move those apps should conditions change.”

Recently, the company initiated interoperability between AppFog and Windows Azure. The next version of AppFog will offer developers a way to utilize Windows Azure's PHP, Node.js, and .NET support for on-premise and public cloud technologies. When letting developers shift their applications between other cloud providers into the Azure platform without any code changes, the company has developed a technology that gets rid of the concern of vendor lock-in.
