Enea Unveils Linux Base Station Platform

Enea (News - Alert), an operating system solution vendor for 3G and 4G infrastructure equipment, is has introduced the Enea Linux Base Station Platform. This platform looks to cater to multi-standard Radio Access Networks, the company has stated.

Providing an effective use of resources to the system, the Enea Linux Base Station Platform offers a combined software foundation. Helping to reduce the bill-of-material (BOM) cost, core utilization and performance are improved. Time-to-market (TTM) and risk are reduced because of a proven set of Enea software system components targeting base stations.

The Enea Linux Base Station Platform is equipped with a customizable range of services and support, maintenance and continued development of the integrated product. The company upgrades and updates new versions of Enea products and open source software in the combined product according to customer needs. Along with tools and middleware required by the 3G and 4G LTE (News - Alert) stack and use-case specific application parts, the major part of the Enea Linux Base Station Platform is the Enea Linux distribution with real-time capabilities and IP transport, IPC (News - Alert) communication, the company stated in a press release.

“The Enea Linux Base Station Platform provides a high performance implementation for both Macro/Micro cells and Small cells that are based on Freescale (News - Alert) QorIQ, StarCore, and QorIQ Qonverge SoC series platforms “, says Barry Stern, Baseband Product Line Marketing Manager, Freescale Semiconductor. “We work closely together with Enea to create the perfect match for SoCs such as the QorIQ Qonverge B4860 and our latest addition QorIQ Qonverge B4420, targeting Metro/Micro base stations deployment.”

Recently, TMC’s Meenakshi Shankar reported that the company signed an agreement with a global communications company, based in Japan. The agreement, as stated by the company, values at $1.14 million and consists of licenses for the real time operating system Enea OSE Multicore edition, the development tool Enea Optima, and some third party software components. Also, to develop a new software platform for next generation communication systems, Enea’s products will be used.
