Coverity Commits to GENIVI Alliance to Advance Software Quality in the Automotive Industry

Coverity (News - Alert) recently announced that it is now a member of the GENIVI Alliance and is now committed to transforming the future of software quality of In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems within the automotive industry. GENIVI has confirmed Coverity’s membership by releasing a statement of its commitment to software quality of the GENIVI Linux-based open source IVI platform.

In a release, Pavel Konopelko, lead of the GENIVI System Architecture Team, said, "The quality of our code is critical to the ongoing success and adoption of the GENIVI platform, which is used by some of the largest companies in the automotive industry. As our codebase grows, Coverity Scan will help us continually improve code quality".

Coverity’s collaboration with the GENIVI Alliance will allow the established automotive industry to develop advanced software quality and security. This collaboration will allow Coverity to detect and fix defects in different systems that are widely used in the automotive industry during the early part of the development cycle, Coverity will enhance the new GENIVI compliant platforms and will help bring down costs and increase the speed of development cycles for IVI systems.

Jennifer Johnson, VP of marketing at Coverity, said, "Our goal with Coverity Scan is to enable more open source projects to adopt development testing as part of their workflow for ongoing quality improvement, as well as further the adoption of open source by providing broader visibility into its quality. Integrating Coverity into the GENIVI development workflow will help GENIVI continue on its mission to further adoption of its IVI platform across the automotive industry. We are excited to join GENIVI and collaborate with industry leaders to help drive software quality and security earlier into the development process, as well as help drive standards across the automotive software supply chain that will ultimately improve the safety and security of automobiles."

This collaboration will also help GENIVI offer the highest levels of software quality and security of its IVI platform. Coverity is now incorporated into the development workflow of four GENIVI projects. The four codebases that have integrated Coverity Scan have successfully achieved an average defect density of .58, which is a better than the current industry average for the software industry.
