Actuate Releases New Findings on Big Data

Network professionals and IT geeks love nothing more than a well built database. When a mass of seemingly random data is harnessed to reveal causal relationships and emerging trends, everybody wins.

The Actuate (News - Alert) (News - Alert) Corporation, a company specializing in business intelligence research, has unveiled the results of their quest to analyze Big Data. The research is exclusive, and independently verified. While Actuate is no slouch in research and analysis, this project was commissioned to an outside source and explores the most pressing issues faced by organizations as they strive to connect their disparate data assets and deliver timely, actionable information to the point of decision.

The study, conducted on Actuate's behalf by AIM, tells us a few things we already knew and a few things that easily qualify as new information. More than half of those interviewed said they would find it "very valuable" or "hugely valuable" to be able to carry out sophisticated analytics on unstructured content particularly as it relates to pattern analysis, keyword correlation, incident prediction and fraud prevention. The study also highlighted the contrast between many organizations' desire to use data in decision making and data's availability.

Speaking about the findings, Nobby Akiha, senior VP of Marketing at Actuate, said, "While Big Data is a new and exciting issue to grapple with, it underscores the overall question of how best to source and deliver key insights into the hands of the people that can act on that data - for maximum impact on customer communications management, and on the organization as a whole.”

The research was conducted by AIM, or the Association for Information and Image Management, a global not-for-profit organization that offers independent research, education and certification for professionals who would like to manage and share information assets more efficiently in the mobile era.
