New Server Memory Module from Apacer

Apacer's newly released server memory module, the DR3-1600, offers an efficient and high-capacity memory upgrade for cloud-computing oriented systems.

The 16-GB memory unit complies with JEDEC standards, offers a low level of signal noise through its ability to take voltage references from both inside and outside of the unit, and is tested reliable and certified by CMTL, Intel's (News - Alert) third-party research laboratory.

The new design updates they implemented with the DR3-1600, according to Apacer, can allow systems to run as much as 20 percent more efficiently than previous server memory modules like the DDR3 LRDIMM, released in September of 2011.

The DR3-1600 plays happily with the most recent two-way servers being released right now, such as AMD's (News - Alert) Quad-Channel Xeon Operon 6000 and the Quad-Channel Xeon E5-2600/4600's from Intel.

As cloud computing becomes accepted more and more widely as a way for contemporary enterprises to handle their computing, only massively high amounts of memory can keep a system running reliably and quickly. Intalio published a white paper May 2010 calling memory the "bottleneck" of a cloud-computing server.

Although memory has always been a crucial part of high-volume computing, cloud computing is a relatively new phenomenon. Many existing systems now tasked with supporting cloud-computing methods were not designed to accommodate the specific needs this type of architecture exerts on a system. They were developed during the 1990s, prior to the shift toward cloud computing, which places an increasing demand for memory on the server; previous systems depend equally on server and client for memory.

Companies running cloud-computing systems that need to remain reliable and appealing to clients must devise ways of addressing these deficiencies.
