Varonis Systems Inc. recently introduced DatAnywhere, a protected and private file sharing similar to the cloud-based file sharing, thereby expanding the usability of corporate file sharing infrastructure. Conventional file server and NAS can now perform cloud-based file synchronization services like Dropbox and Google (News
- Alert) Drive with DatAnywhere.
Collaboration similar to that offered by cloud services can now be experienced by users. Organizations are however not required to transfer the data to the cloud. They are also not required to administer an extra user directory, or a diverse set of permissions. Files from corporate file shares are automatically synchronized by DatAnywhere with the remote employee laptops and devices in a protected manner. Employees are therefore able to share files with co-workers and external business associates in a secure manner.
In a release, Yaki Faitelson, CEO, president and co-founder, Varonis, said, "File sync services are widely used by consumers, but when employees use them without controls, the risks are enormous. Employees need to collaborate, to share files, wherever they are doing their work, but organizations shouldn't have to sacrifice data security or let storage capacity go to waste to enable collaboration. Varonis DatAnywhere is designed to give employees and organizations the digital collaboration they need to be successful, while maximizing existing security and storage infrastructure investments.
An increasing number of consumers are currently using the cloud-based content sharing services but organizations are worried of the resulting data protection and management issues. Huge quantities of data are now being made available onto devices, which cannot be monitored by enterprise controls and audit trails, due to the increase of BYOD. A survey was recently conducted by Varonis among 450 IT professionals. A majority of the respondents were in favor of using their current storage infrastructure for sharing digital content.
Brad Shimmin, principal analyst, Collaboration Platforms, Current Analysis (News - Alert), said, "A large number of organizations are struggling to foster collaboration between partners, customers and employees across the corporate firewall, without sacrificing security, availability and manageability. While cloud-based solutions are steadily improving, an immediate and straightforward answer resides in deploying premises-based software capable of providing the experience of a cloud service while keeping precious data in the enterprise."
