Seagate's Backup Plus - A Sleek Hard Drive and a Strong Backer

Many of us have often wandered down that road where the failure to back up data has had miserable consequences and Seagate (News - Alert), the hard drive maker, ever tuned to customers' needs, is trying to ensure that it doesn't happen again with the introduction of a sleek mobile HDD called Backup Plus.

Backup Plus, an attractive device that comes in four trendy colors is the latest in a line of f 2.5-inch mobile HDDs, and reportedly the world's first external drive to provide backup for content on social networks as well as data from the computer with just a few clicks.

To start the back up process, an 18-inch USB 3.0 cable or a Firewire and Thunderbolt adapter that plugs into the computer can be used.

Compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms, the device has a simple user-interface that can be used to either save, backup or share content with other consumers. The company stated that it is very easy to set up the device. Although it isn't very intuitive, a little bit of figuring is all it takes to prod it into action. Once it starts, the going is pretty smooth.

Perhaps the best thing about the Seagate drives is the Universal Storage Module. As technology changes and the industry comes up with newer things, this module can be removed and replaced with a new kind of connector. This extends the life-span of the drive considerably.

Backup Plus comes in three sizes; 500 gigabytes for about $119, 750 gigabytes for $129 and 1 terabyte for $139 for portable drives and 1TB to 4TB for Backup Plus Desk drives. Backup Plus drives can be purchased from Amazon, Best Buy (News - Alert) and other reputable dealers.
