By Mini SwamyWhat does one look for in a Virtual Private Server (VPS)? A reliable platform to host applications in the cloud, a network that's mostly up or a cost-effective way to store 'big data'? Any communications provider that can provide this and more would be the obvious choice, so it wasn’t surprising when Pacnet (News - Alert) launched its IaaS solution, Pacnet VPS, in Bangkok, Thailand.
Pacnet VPS looks beyond mere cost savings and leverages Pacnet's Internet Services, delivering high-performance and high-resiliency virtual servers, well suited to the needs of customers looking for scalable options and a safe and secure environment to store data, said company officials.
"We have seen a growing number of organizations in Thailand, especially in key industries such as manufacturing, recognizing the need for an IaaS solution such as Pacnet VPS, so as to enable them to quickly add the capability to host applications and data, that will deliver added value to their businesses," said Paisan Kaweyanun, country manager at Pacnet Thailand.
Server virtualization, a fledgling technology, can convert one physical server into multiple virtual machines. Each virtual server acts like a unique physical device, capable of running its own operating system.
Pacnet's service allows customers to choose the configurations according to their computational and storage requirements. Ranging from small and medium to large and extra large, customers are not stuck with limited options.
Customers are also allowed the luxury of choosing between Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat (News
- Alert) Enterprise Linux as the operating system for the virtual server. Additional virtual CPU, storage and optional software are also included in the service package.
"Pacnet VPS leverages the latest server virtualization technology to enable businesses to get access to reliable and rapidly scalable server hosting environments without requiring a huge upfront capital investment," said Chris Wilson, senior vice president of product strategy and management at Pacnet.
With the concept of VPS gathering momentum, Pacnet has plans to introduce its VPS technology in many locations worldwide. It recently launched in Australia.
TMCnet reported a special deal from GalaxyVisions, a provider of virtual private servers for foreign exchange traders in the New York metropolitan area. The company is offering seven months for the price of six or 15 months for the price of 12 for those investors who sign up for its forex VPS plans.
