BYTEGRID Upgrades, Expands its Maryland Data Center

BYTEGRID announced the successful completion of an infrastructure upgrade at MDC1, an ultra-secure data center located in Silver Spring, Maryland. BYTEGRID specializes in acquisition, development and operation of wholesale data center facilities.

“Until now, the vast majority of multi-tenant enterprise-class data center options for the metro Washington, D.C. area have been concentrated in Ashburn, Virginia,” said Art Jacoby, the Tech Council of Maryland’s Chief Executive Officer. “BYTEGRID’s campus is situated central to the state's growth sectors including Cybersecurity, Healthcare and Life Sciences.”

The facility has 22 megawatts of back-up generator capacity and 9 megawatts of available UPS critical load power, aside from a flexible architecture to match different power densities and redundancy levels as needed by clients.

Private raised floor computer rooms are also available, ranging from 2,000 sq.ft. to 35,000 sq.ft in area. The carrier-neutral facility is delivered by multiple Tier 1 telecommunications providers.

In step with enterprise demands, BYTEGRID upgraded two new UPS systems that provide 3.6 megawatts of critical load power. The upgrade was initiated to replace all original MEP infrastructures with cooling systems that comply with Tier III requirements concerning maintainability and fault tolerance.

Officials highlighted that the upgrade will serve the increase in demand for more power to match expanding IP traffic, video, virtualization and other cloud computing applications in enterprises and agencies.

BYTEGRID’s data center facility is optimally located within the metro Washington, D.C. data center market and the Federal government area. It also serves the Maryland Cybersecurity Triangle and Montgomery County’s LifeSci Village Master Plan.

The additional capacity will be equipped to serve new and existing customers, as it covers more than 90,000 sq.ft. of raised floor with additional space. Besides physical security the infrastructure has been designed to ensure deliverance of double critical load power capacity in future.

“The demand for financial and compliant grade IT infrastructure continues to grow as companies outsource infrastructure with trusted providers,” said Kenneth R. Parent, BYTEGRID’s Chief Executive Officer. “Today’s news announces the arrival of one of the largest financial grade data centers in the metro Washington, D.C. area, and a new destination of choice, especially for those relegated to less convenient options in Loudon County, Virginia.”

In June 2011, BYTEGRID Holdings announced the acquisition of a fully operational, highly resilient data center campus on an ultra-secure 11-acre site in Silver Spring, Maryland. ByteGrid partnered with Altpoint Capital Partners LLC, a New York-based private equity firm, to build and expand the platform across multiple geographic markets.
