CompanionLink Launches 'Cloud-Free' Hosting, Data Synchronization

While security continues to be a significant concern regarding cloud adoption, data synchronization provider CompanionLink Software has launched a “cloud-free” approach for hosting contacts, calendar, tasks and memos.

CompanionLink’s USB sync protocol, DejaConnect, handles synchronization to Android (News - Alert) Phones and Tablets, including Kindle Fire, using the traditional plug-and-play HotSync model.

The technology works with CRM tools like Microsoft Outlook, Sage ACT, Palm Desktop, IBM Lotus Notes, Novell (News - Alert) GroupWise and Highrise, according to Wayland Bruns, CTO at CompanionLink Software.

“A direct sync from PC to phone is completely secure,” Bruns said. “Data is not shared with cloud services that may later sell or profit from your customer database and calendar. We believe people should not be forced to host their business and personal relations online for the benefit and profit of sync vendors.”

CompanionLink distributes a secure and encrypted mobile CRM app called DejaOffice, a free Android app for business users who need their contact names, phone numbers, account information and notes encrypted in case they lose their device.

DejaOffice also features the ability to hide contact, calendar, task and memo records under a password-lock mode, for people who need extra privacy of key information.

CompanionLink for Outlook starts at $14.95. A 14-day free trial is available online.

Last December, CompanionLink announced its ability to synchronize contact photos to Windows Phone (News - Alert) devices. To sync contact photos to Windows Phone, users have to configure CompanionLink to sync from the computer via Google. Once synced to Google, photos are then wirelessly synchronized to any Windows Phone device configured with the same Google (News - Alert) account.
