By Sujata GarudWinners for Joomla Open Source (News - Alert) Creative and Artistic Recognition Awards (J!OSCAR) represent the talent in the Joomla community, which consists of thousands of developers. The awards were handed out to the winners at the 2012 J and Beyond Conference held May 18-20 at the Dolce Hotel in Bad Nauheim, Germany.
JCE was honored with the award for Free Joomla Add-ons. ACL Manager was awarded for Commercial Joomla Add-ons. Beez, CloudAccess.net, stackideas.com, and joomlagov.info were awarded for Joomla Template Systems, Joomla Services, Corporate Website, and Non-corporate Website respectively. In a press release, Victor Drover, who oversaw this year's J!OSCAR awards and is part of the Joomla Events team, said, “The J!OSCAR Awards are given to the very best talent in the Joomla community and we are proud to recognize more than a dozen companies and people this year. Without their contribution, Joomla wouldn't be able to grow like it has.”

Recently, Joomla was in news when eight students were selected to contribute to Joomla project. The eight students include Javier Gómez: Language Installation for the CMS; Lucas Tiago De Castro Jesus: Language Translation Extension; Aaron Schmitz: Google API; Diana Prajescu: Facebook (News - Alert) API; Florian Voutzinos: Workflow API; Kavith Thiranga Lokuhewage: JS / CSS Compression API; Prasath Nadarajah: MediaWiki API; and Stefan Neculai: Web Services API.
