Mellanox Announces Ethernet and InfiniBand Solutions to Optimize HP Gen8 Servers

Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies has announced that it will start offering its Ethernet and InfiniBand interconnect solutions through HP. These data center server solutions will run on the new HP ProLiant Generation (Gen8) servers to deliver leading application performance.

Some of these solutions include the Mellanox 10/40GbE Network Interface Cards and SwitchX FDR 56Gb/s switch blades and systems. The capabilities of HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers with Mellanox FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand solutions are evident after the solution was installed in Purdue University (News - Alert) for the “Carter” supercomputer which became the 54th world’s most powerful supercomputer in November 2011. At only half the server count, this 648-node supercomputer delivers double the performance over the previous giant at the university.

According to Mellanox Technologies’s VP of Sales, Americas and Global OEM Accounts, Chuck Tybur,  “The interconnect plays a significant role in reducing data center CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert). Mellanox delivers the most effective interconnect solutions for the HP ProLiant G8, enabling the highest compute and storage performance at the lowest cost and power consumption.”

Lee Fisher, who works Hperscale Fabrics product marketing at HP, said the increasing compute power demand from customers in server investments without additional energy or system footprint use was a major reason for this offering. He said that the new HP ProLiant Gen8 Servers combined with Mellanox interconnect components will help deliver fast speeds at low latencies which will accelerate application performance in scientific research, financial services and in social media.
