Spectra Logic's Tape Libraries Earn Top Ranking In DCIG 2012 Big Data Tape Library Buyer's Guide

The Data Center Infrastructure Group (DCIG) 2012 Big Data Tape Library Buyer's Guide has given Spectra Logic’s T-Finity and T950 tape libraries the highest rankings. Both products were also recognized as "Best in Class" products in the market. The Logic T-Finity and T950 models from Spectra earned top rankings within the dual robot and single robot classes of libraries based on the robust support the products provide for legacy and advanced features, which support the increasing demand for active archiving and backup of big data.

In a release, Jerome Wendt, president and lead analyst, DCIG, Inc., said "As enterprise organizations come to grips with their Big Data requirements, tape technology is getting new consideration as a preferred data storage medium. Our research indicates many organizations are increasing their tape-based storage or reintroducing tape as a key element of their backup and archival strategy. The Big Data Tape Library Buyer's Guide will help end users quickly discern the tape library solution most appropriate for their storage needs."

Testings for 140 features over 66 tape libraries from eight storage vendors which included Dell (News - Alert), HP, IBM, Oracle, Overland, Qualstar, Quantum and Spectra Logic were carried out by DCIG.

Spectra’s Logic T-Finity and T950 models were ranked high among all tape libraries based on their ability to address data management demands and to deliver "best mix of next generation tape library features." Furthermore, T-Finity has been designed to support all leading software offerings and can be scaled to hold petabytes of data, features redundant robotics, and provides robust software for optimizing tape media.

Molly Rector, executive vice president of product management and worldwide marketing, Spectra Logic, explained, "Modern tape storage solutions offer robust functionality and features such as LTFS support, proactive media health alerts, and automated data integrity verification. Customers are increasingly choosing tape libraries as they implement active archives in addition to their traditional tape backup strategies. The DCIG Buyer's Guide is an excellent tool and highlights what matters most to end users tasked with meeting challenging data storage demands, including high performance, availability, density, and scalable capacity."

The tape also offers additional functionally benefits which include low power consumption and increased space efficiency via multiple disk options. Additionally, the tape has been designed with advanced data reliability and accessibility capabilities.
