By Calvin AzuriNLT Technologies (NLT) recently announced the successful completion of the new multi-view display incorporating the HxDP (Horizontally x times-Density Pixels) technology. The development of the latest offering from NLT is the result of a joint collaborative initiative between the company and Renesas Electronics America and Renesas Electronics Europe, its sales and marketing channels in the Americas and Europe.
The multi-view display can support auto-stereoscopic images as it features a polysilicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) color LCD display 2D/3D module prototype which has been designed with a wide quarter video graphics array (WQVGA) resolution.
The 3.1-inch six-view display prototype is based on NLT's HxDP pixel array which means users don’t need special 3-dimensional glasses to view high-density stereoscopic images. Furthermore, the prototype incorporates a wide stereoscopic viewing angle as well as the multi-view technology with multi-camera data from NLT, which supports multi-angle images to deliver an enhanced 3D viewing experience.
In a release, Omid Milani, vice president, Displays, Renesas Electronics America, said that, "As interest in 3D technologies increases for consumer and industrial markets, there is a growing need to support both two-view and multi-view technologies and products, particularly for applications like 3D CAD/CAM, gaming or medical imaging. Applying advanced technologies like NLT's HxDP technology to industrial applications helps to create a more comprehensive user experience and improve overall results by providing more accurate and realistic imaging capabilities."
NLT's HxDP technology builds on its HDDP (Horizontally Double-Density Pixels) technology which supports multi-view stereoscopic displays ideal within a number of different industrial applications.
The company’s six-view, 2D/3D 3.1-inch display prototype module features horizontally striped RGB color pixels, each of which comprise of three sub-pixels which are again striped horizontally and have been split up 1/6 lengthwise to support an optimized resolution. And because the horizontal pixels alternate the displays for each eye, the resultant effect is startlingly clear and realistic 3D images. With the HxDP technology even 2D and 3D images can be displayed in the same resolution on the same screen simultaneously without the user have to resort to use of 3D glasses.
