Blue Coat Launches K9 Web Protection Browser for Android

With an advancement of technology, kids can now easily access internet through their parents’ tablets and smartphones. This easy access to internet poses a great threat of kids being exposed to content that they should not see. To assure that kids are safe and away from all the malicious content available over internet, Blue Coat (News - Alert) Systems announced the availability of K9 Web Protection Browser for Android. This launch extends Blue Coat's initiative to provide safe Internet access on mobile devices.

K9 Web Protection Browser protects individuals and families from malicious threats including phishing and malware on mobile phones and tablets. The K9 Web Protection Browser for Android (News - Alert) is available as a free download from Google Play.

The browser ensures to filter content that is not suitable for young children, including pornography, hate/violence, illegal drugs, and gambling. The browser protects 85% of the FORTUNE Global 500 to mobile devices that comprise 67 percent of the smartphone market.

Prior to this, Blue Coat had released K9 Web Protection Browser for Apple (News - Alert) iOS app. The K9 Web Protection Browser for Android is supported by Blue Coat’s WebPulse collaborative defense. This offers users with proactive, "negative day" protection that blocks malware attacks before they launch. Blue Coat's K9 Web Protection software for PC and Mac computers and the K9 Web Protection Browser for iOS are also supported by WebPulse collaborative defense.

Over the past two years, the adoption of mobile devices has seen tremendous growth. This allowed users to access internet from anywhere like mobile phone or tablet. Generally, personal computers and laptops have number of protections but this is not the case with mobile phones.

In a press release, Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of corporate and business development, Blue Coat Systems, said, “Mobile devices are quickly becoming a primary platform for Web access by nearly all age groups. The adoption of these mobile devices has moved faster than the security required to protect the users of those devices, creating a considerable challenge for parents that want to provide a consistently safe Web experience for their children. K9 Web Protection Browser for Android is the first solution to provide parents with protection they can rely on and also represents a significant step in our strategy to secure and manage Web access for any user in any location on any device.”

Blue Coat was recently in news when Westcon Middle East was selected as a distributor for Blue Coat Systems in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
