In step with the U.S. government’s Cloud-First plans, the Department of Labor is retaining efforts to use General Services Administration-approved cloud services for enterprise and content management services.
To help the labor department in its efforts, Washington Consulting, Inc. (WCI), will work with prime contractor CGI (News - Alert) Federal Inc. (CGI) to provide an enterprise case and content management solution on a cloud-based platform.
WCI officials said the project is the first case and content management solution to be deployed in a GSA (News - Alert)-approved cloud environment. The cloud-based service will be scalable, highly configurable, promote reusable components and contain a business process management component to address workflow and reporting needs, according to Marty Brennan, president of WCI.
“The cloud approach provides a lower cost of ownership and eliminates the need for on-site technical infrastructure. By improving Department of Labor’s operational and mission-specific processes, the information-sharing within the department and with other organizations will be greatly enhanced,” Brennan said. “The accessibility and reusability aspects of the cloud-based solution further contribute to the Department of Labor's ability to increase automation while helping to reduce costs.”
WCI will lead the case and content system integration efforts using EMC’s (News

The initial deployment, known as the Federal Contract Compliance System, will address the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs’ need to update its existing system and modernize process capabilities and reporting.
In related news, WCI Consulting joined the Amazon Web Services (News

The AWS Solution Provider Program allows consultants such as WCI Consulting, as well as other systems integrators, interactive agencies and channel partners, to broaden their suite of offerings and expand their customer base while driving new revenue streams, WCI officials said. The program supports member organizations’ operational and IT requirements as they migrate their businesses and their customers to a cloud computing environment.
