Wrapp Establishes Operations in Netherlands, Signs Major Merchants

Wrapp recently announced it has set up operations in the Netherlands. Wrapp is a social gift giving service that lets users give free and paid gift cards to family and friends using their smartphones or computers. The company also confirmed it has started to sign top retailers in the region.

"We think gift giving should be an everyday event between friends and family. ‘Thank you.’ ‘Congratulations on the new job.’ ‘Happy Monday.’ Everyone loves to be recognized and celebrated, and Wrapp makes it easy to be a caring friend, and a way for friends in common to join-in," said Mariolein Van Der Plas, Wrapp's country manager for the Netherlands. “Wrapp services are currently available in the U.K., Norway and Sweden.

For Facebook (News - Alert) (News- Alert) users accessing the network thorough a smartphone, Wrapp provides a fun and easy option to thank, celebrate, delight and surprise friends and family with free gift cards from premier brands. The service can be used anywhere, anytime using mobile devices or the Web.

Wrapp provides retailers a customer acquisition and retention platform to conduct discount-free campaigns based on performance. Merchants can employ the friend-to-friend marketing technique to acquire real-time access to aggregated campaigns, drive highly directed in-store and on-line traffic and sales and collect customer demographic data.

According to participating retailers, Wrapp helps generate an average purchase four to six times as valuable as the free gift card the merchant provides for users to give to family and friends.

"The Netherlands is an important market for Wrapp,” said Wrapp CEO Hjalmar Winbladh. “We're well funded by Atomico (News - Alert) (News- Alert) and Greylock Partners, the venture capital firms of our board members Niklas Zennstrom, co-founder of Skype and Reid Hoffman (News - Alert), co-founder of the social network LinkedIn (News- Alert), and we're not afraid of making significant investments here to insure success for Dutch retailers."

Wrapp will soon be available to retailers and users in the U.S., Germany, France, Denmark, Finland and Taiwan. The service since its inception in 2011 has been used by over 50 top retailers across Europe. Over 160,000 people have gifted more than 1.3 million gift cards using Wrapp to date.
