Report Finds Production Access a Challenge for Service Providers and Clients during ADM Operations Transitions

Recent findings by Information Services Group have indicated that service providers and clients face challenges when it comes to production access to offshore resources during application development and maintenance (ADM) operations transitions. ISG are experts in technology insights, market intelligence and advisory services.

In a release, Jim Hussey, global head of the Transition Services for ISG, said that, “While essential to a successful ADM transition, production access is often overlooked and poorly managed during the transition process. As a result, the capabilities of the service provider are often compromised and the client becomes dissatisfied with the ADM initiative as well as with overall provider performance.”

The ISG Transition Council, a panel comprising of 50 plus experts ranging from clients to service providers that released the findings on production access, is responsible for identifying issues that surround sourcing transition while defining best practices and strategies that can help alleviate these issues and bring improvements.

Vivek Kalra, senior vice president at Tech Mahindra, said that, “We often find that clients have not adequately considered their unique production access requirements. Service providers face significant challenges to engage all relevant parties, so dialogue when contractual arrangements are being finalized is critical to ensure success. Knowing our processes are in line with the findings of the ISG Transition Council enables us to leverage the expertise of an objective and respected third party.”

Issues typical to production access during ADM transitions that were established by the Council forum include a significant lack of planning which is further compounded by aggressive schedules and unrealistic goals and targets for staff with access needs.

The Council came up with a set of best practices which can help improve pre-transition planning, and ensure accuracy and accountability, in addition to improving service provider engagement. These guidelines can also help service provider understand how changes in proposed solutions can impact them.

Anubhav Saxena, vice president of Global Business Marketing, Strategy, and Strategic Alliances at HCL Technologies (News - Alert), said that, “ISG is at the forefront of technology industry for its deep technical knowledge base and innovative consulting-led solutions. The ISG Transition Council helps clients and service providers better understand the technical and organizational challenges that must be overcome to establish effective offshore production access. The findings are consistent with our experience and we believe organizations that follow these recommendations will benefit greatly.”
