Evaluator Group Lab Testing Validates Starboard Storage AC72 against Competitor Product

Mid-tier IT departments today face a unique problem of managing mixed storage workloads. The companies often have unstructured, virtualized, and structured data, all of which have different requirements. These challenges are made worse every day as the company’s file and virtualized data are growing relentlessly.

Starboard AC72 Storage System provides a solution to this problem. With the AC72’s Application-Crafted Storage, companies get the freedom to manage their applications, instead of their storage. The AC72 offers easy, reliable application consolidation onto a single storage system.

Recently, Starboard Storage Systems announced that Evaluator Group showcased the AC72’s capacity to provide more than 2X (News - Alert) the performance of a leading competing unified storage system for mission critical applications. According to Evaluator Group, AC72 does this at a lower total cost and less than half the cost per TB.

The Evaluator Group compared the two systems in various tests under identical conditions running multiple mixed workloads to arrive at the conclusions, the company stated in a press release.

“Our customer’s are looking for affordable solutions for mixed workloads without compromising performance,” said Lee Johns, vice president of Product Management at Starboard Storage Systems. “The Evaluator Group’s tests and assessment of the AC72 is a message to the market that the small and midsize enterprises do not have to sacrifice performance and management over price for their mixed workloads with the AC72.”

In other news from August 2011, Evaluator Group Inc. has announced the first industry storage benchmark for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), the VDI-IOmark.

Evaluator Group has been working closely with IT organizations in identifying requirements for full scale out VDI environments. A Proof of Concept (POC) has been included in each project to understand and decide the expected IO performance as well as the storage costs involved.
