RFMD's Power Amplifier Makes One Billionth Shipment to China

RF Micro Devices (News - Alert) (RFMD), global provider of high-performance radio frequency components and compound semiconductor technologies, recently achieved a major business landmark by shipping over one billion cellular power amplifiers (PAs) to handset manufacturers based in the Greater China area.

RFMD explained in a press release that the company was committed to provide its Chinese customers with the products that offer exceptional operational scale, technological innovation and a highly competitive cost-structure. The latest achievement proves that the company was able to live up to the expectation.

RFMD’s (News - Alert) power amps deliver an enhanced user experience by extending battery life and trimming thermal impacts. The device family currently covers WCDMA bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 and LTE (News - Alert) bands 4, 7, 11, 13, 17, 18, 20 and 21, covering common UMTS/HSPA+ and LTE bands and combos.

More multimode, multi-band and single-mode LTE variants will appear in the first half of this year.

RFMD has operated in China for a decade. The company started its journey in the region 2002 with its first manufacturing facility in Beijing. The initiative supported the local China-based manufacturers and international manufacturers with operations in the country.

RFMD opened its Shanghai Design Center In 2007, and saw a major expansion of its Beijing facility. The company today offers the industry's most complete end-to-end source for design, manufacturing, field applications engineering and sales support, with approximately 2,000 employees located in China supporting hundreds of customers and baseband providers.

The company anticipates strong growth in the Chinese market through the upcoming years, and is expected to maintain its leadership position by continuing to introduce innovations in 2G components and offering the industry’s most reliable RF product portfolio for the rapidly growing 3G and TD-SCDMA/TD-LTE smartphone markets.

RFMD recently announced a leading manufacturer of next-generation 3G/4G and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) smartphones has selected RF Micro Devices (RFMD) to provide variations of the chip maker’s high-efficiency WCDMA, 4G, and LTE power amplifiers.
