Schooner Information Technology Unveils Membrain 4.0

The latest release of Membrain has been unveiled by Schooner Information Technology, Inc. Improved capacity and performance is possible with Membrain 4.0, a memcached-friendly software cache and constant NoSQL key-value store, which simplifies datacenter scale out by offering ten times advanced server fusion.  Membrain, which works on typical x86 servers, can now support up to one terabyte per server. The latest flash drives with very high capacity from Fusion-io, Intel (News - Alert) and LSI Corporation will therefore be compatible with the latest release.

In the conventional method of scaling a software cache or NoSQL data store, the dataset is placed on a server with capacity to fit the accessible dynamic random-access memory, thereby obtaining excellent performance. With the addition of more servers for increased capacity, this method results in unwarranted sharding and bad server consumption, forcing increased expenses for additional hardware and resources.

A multi-threaded deployment of memcached has been introduced by Membrain, which advantageously uses flash for enhancing server performance, up-time and storage capacity. Membrain also reduces the total cost of ownership by fifty percent.

In a release, Tyler Smith, VP for Strategic Alliances at Fusion-io (News - Alert), said, "Schooner Membrain leverages a very powerful caching technology based on memcached, making it both scalable and cost-efficient, two things that pair well with our ioMemory. Enterprises can manage and monitor the Membrain instances in a simplified manner with the completely-featured graphical user interface of Membrain 4.0. Instances of stock memcached can also be monitored with the latest release, which also features an enhanced installer and improved remote diagnostics tool.
