6WIND Partners with BroadWeb

6WIND, a provider of packet processing software, signed a partnership deal with BroadWeb, a specialist in networking hardware and software, to provide pre-integrated software solutions for Intrusion (News - Alert) Prevention Systems or IPS. The partnership is aimed at accelerating OEMs’ time-to-market while delivering industry-leading performance.

“6WIND and BroadWeb have worked together to integrate the 6WINDGate packet processing software with BroadWeb’s DPI engine, providing a best-in-class solution for network security appliances”, Eric Carmès, chief executive officer of 6WIND said in a press release.

“Performing single-pass scanning, the combined solution delivers a throughput of 20Gbps per core on a dual Intel (News - Alert) Xeon processor platform with a clock speed of 2.67GHz.The overall system-level performance of our combined solution scales linearly with the number of processor cores configured to run 6WINDGate, enabling OEMs to deliver network security products that simultaneously perform both IPS and Application Identification functions at line rate,” Carmes added.

As the gold standard for software-defined networks, 6WIND has been transforming mobile and cloud infrastructure to deliver true Network-as-a-Service capabilities. The company provides networking software optimized for cost-effective hardware, while enabling Network-as-a-Service capabilities that monetize network services. The 6WINDGate software is designed to offer sustainable competitive advantages to network operators, service providers, system integrators and network equipment providers.

With increased users of 3G/4G and cloud computing services, traffic in mobile infrastructure and data centers is growing high. This has created business-critical challenges for network administrators and service providers, as it requires to be constantly monitored for intellectual property leakage and other types of abuse. Deep Packet Inspection or DPI technology provides network administrators with better visibility and control.

“DPI technology is integrated into network appliances more widely than before,” Terence Liu, chief executive officer of BroadWeb said in a statement.

Liu also believes this partnership between BroadWeb and 6WIND can overcome the performance bottleneck of DPI technology and offer OEMs improved time-to-market along with high efficiency. The combined solution, according to Liu, can easily be integrated into a variety of network devices targeted at both telecommunication and enterprise markets.

6WIND and BroadWeb also revealed their plan to demonstrate these solutions at the RSA (News - Alert) Conference to be held in San Francisco from February 27th through March 2nd.

Recently, BroadWeb revealed about its new membership of the eNsemble Multi-Core Alliance, a premier industry organization founded to drive best-in-class innovations in multi-core parallel processing platforms and software development. The eNsemble Multi-Core Alliance serves as the foundation upon which original equipment manufacturers can more effectively and more efficiently develop high-performance networking equipment using industry-leading multi-core processors.
