Savvis: We're the Cloud Market's 'Best-Kept Secret'

When it comes to how companies should integrate the cloud into their business processes, it’s becoming clearer that a “one-size-fits-all” approach just isn’t cutting it.

One company standing firmly behind this belief is Savvis, a global provider of cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises. This week, Savvis revealed its Savvis Symphony Open public cloud and Symphony Dedicated private cloud in Japan.

“The Savvis Symphony suite of cloud services meets the rapidly increasing demand for enterprise cloud in the high-growth Japan market,” said Mark Smith, managing director, Asia, for Savvis, in a press release. “Savvis’ proven, global cloud services enable organizations to become more agile and competitive in a number of ways, including decreased time to market, the ability to rapidly respond to market opportunities and allowing for a flexible transition from legacy IT deployment to cloud.”

Anicom Holdings, a large pet insurance company based in Japan, was the first client to give Symphony Open a whirl. The successful beta period led Anicom to permanently adopt the cloud service for hosting its website, which includes a customer portal for online purchases.

“We selected Savvis to host our website to meet market demand. We needed an IT partner that could deliver the highest levels of flexibility, scalability and security,” said Meiji Maruo, director of IT at Anicom. “Savvis offers true enterprise-class cloud, with great customer support.”

With Savvis Symphony cloud services, customers have the option to deploy it individually or through a hybrid model that leverages the cloud, managed hosting, collocation and network services available through Savvis’ 32 data centers across Asia, North America and EMEA. More specifically, according to Reed Smith, director of Cloud Services for Savvis, who spoke with TMCnet at last week’s Cloud Connect event in Santa Clara, Calif., it’s this lack of a “one-size-fits-all” approach that sets the company, and its Symphony solution, apart from the rest.

“Some companies force you to be in the cloud. We have both options,” Smith told TMCnet. “We are one of the best-kept secrets in the market; we can meet the same price and performance goals, and can provide cloud environments built for production. With us, you only have to buy one SLA, and our cloud is the easiest to use.”

In addition to exhibiting at Cloud Connect – an event bringing together the entire cloud ecosystem to better comprehend how companies are addressing the cloud transformation-- Savvis also unveiled its Virtual Private Data Center, which offers customers the “full data center experience.”

“We create an environment that allows them to use and create cloud servers, but also take the storage, firewalls, etc., that are in the data center and create a cloud data center,” he explained.

When asked how Savvis is addressing the ever-present concern of cloud security, Smith said security is, in fact, Savvis’ “big differentiator.”

“Our solutions are built with security in mind. We designed our product with security built in to its underpinnings,” he said.

As for the direction Smith sees the cloud taking over the next five years, he believes not only will the cloud continue to grow and evolve, but it will become a normal and everyday adoption.

So, what does Savvis want its end-users to keep in mind?

“Customers don’t have to live with a one-size-fits-all cloud. We have a cloud with multiple options that’s easy to use, easy to buy, and fast to provision.”
