Terremark Invests in Expansion of Data Center in Colombia

Latin America has been emerging in the past several years as a technologically sound area of the world in demand for a bigger IT infrastructure. Terremark, a company associated with Verizon (News - Alert), announced that it has successfully expanded its data center in Bogota, Colombia to help meet these ever-increasing demands.

The data center is the access point that Colombians rely on to communicate on the Web in an international level. This improved cloud host expanded to twice its original size in 2008, covering about 20 thousand square feet within the data center. Today, the data center is one of the biggest and most connected in Colombia.

Terremark's expansion is the first step in a plan that will offer highly advanced solutions for the IT infrastructure within its network of 50 different data centers it has around the world. Right now, with its new expansion, the company currently has 60,000 square feet of floor space in its data centers within Latin America, particularly in Brazil and Colombia.

President of Terremark Nelson Fonseca said, "In the last six months, Terremark has completed the expansion of four strategically located data centers, two of them in Latin America. The NAP [Network Access Point (News - Alert)] of the Americas-Colombia's growth is aligned with our plan to make our unique IT portfolio available from across the globe, and the newly expanded NAP strengthens Terremark's presence in this high-demand region."

Terremark's Americas-Colombia NAP sits within the Free Trade Zone of Bogota handling the traffic for the subscribers of 15 different Internet network carriers in cooperation with more than 160 carriers through an access point for the Americas in Miami, FL. Colombia's Terremark data center is a secure IT infrastructure within a green facility that manages its cooling systems carefully. There is always a physical security team on board to make sure that customer data is protected not only through firewalls, but also on the data center itself.
