6WIND Announces Support for Cavium's OCTEON III Processor Family

6WIND has announced support within the 6WINDGate software solution for the next-generation OCTEON III processor family from Cavium, improving time-to-market for high-performance mobile and cloud infrastructure applications.

“Networking and telecom equipment manufacturers have developed best-in-class products by using the 6WINDGate software on earlier generations of Cavium processors,” said Eric Carmès, CEO of 6WIND. “With support for the new OCTEON III family, we look forward to enabling these customers to quickly extend their product lines for high-performance applications. At the same time, by maintaining full compatibility with standard Operating System APIs, 6WINDGate enables new customers to quickly develop or migrate their application software.”

Networks must be designed for high scalability rather than for the needs of specific, well-known applications. However, the exponential growth in mobile video traffic, requires software-defined networks running on standard hardware platforms.

By maximizing the reuse of proprietary, legacy software typically developed over multiple product generations and proven through extensive field experience, engineering teams face constant pressure to minimize their time-to-market, the company stated in a press release.

Delivering a comprehensive, portable suite of networking protocols already deployed by tier-1 OEMs worldwide, 6WINDGate provides a proven solution to various challenges faced by the clients. 6WIND will discuss this support at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 27th through March 1st (booth 2B122) and at RSA (News - Alert) Conference in San Francisco from February 27th through March 2nd (booth 242). In line with the availability of the processors themselves, 6WINDGate support for the Cavium OCTEON III family will be available, the company has announced.

Recently, Cavium’s 32-core OCTEON II CN68XX embedded processor family received optimized support by the new 6WINDGate software, according to a recent release. With over 40Gbps of performance, the time-to-market for cloud networking and mobile infrastructure equipment is accelerated by the new software.

The development of best-in-class cloud networking and mobile infrastructure equipment is enabled by 6WINDGate. An announcement in this regard has been made by the industry standard for commercial embedded multi-core packet processing software, 6WIND.
