- Alert), Inc. recently announced that in response to increasing demands from its customers, it has extended the production life cycle of its Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 from the initial 7 years to 10 years.
By effectively extending the production life cycle of both Red Hat Linux offerings, the company has made it possible for enterprise customers to benefit from additional deployment options for the implementation of their Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems which will allow them to plan out strategic IT deployments for the future.
In a release, Jim Totton, vice president and general manager of the Platform Business Unit at Red Hat, said that, “Enterprise customers require flexibility when planning strategic, long-term technology deployments. Many of our customers have come to realize that standardizing on Red Hat Enterprise Linux improves efficiency and helps lower costs. With a ten-year life cycle, customers now have additional choices when planning their Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployment and overall IT strategy. We are pleased that customers are looking far into the future with Red Hat.”
In a number of IT environments, scaling up or upgrading to advanced versions of their operating system needs extensive planning well in advance. Keeping this in mind, Red Hat decided to extend the production life cycle of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 so customers can continue to work on the current version of Enterprise Linux operating system for a longer time.
