PLX to Highlight Features of PCIe Gen3 at DesignCon 2012 Session

PLX Technology (News - Alert) announced that its director of hardware applications, Reginald Conley, will participate as a panelist during the DesignCon 2012 session. The event is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2012.

In a release, Conley said, “DesignCon 2012 provides an ideal forum to address not just how PCI (News - Alert) Express provides the interconnect backbone of high-speed designs but also how designers can glean valuable metrics of its performance, through sophisticated equipment and advanced on-chip features.”

“Designing with PCI Express Gen3 poses both opportunities and challenges for design engineers such as selecting the appropriate switch for a particular application and assuring it interoperates optimally with other system components -- so it’s crucial those designers be informed on the dynamics of test and measurement early in the design stage,” Conley added.

It was revealed that Conley will highlight the features of PCI Express (PCIe) Gen3 and ways by which its speed of 8GBps per lane can be optimized and verified using special integrated on-chip diagnostics tools and software.

The company, which specializes in high-speed connectivity solutions required by enterprise data centers, will be an active participant at the session titled “The Future of Measurements” scheduled to take place in California, officials revealed.

Conley is experienced in implementing PLX PCIe switching products’ into high-speed system designs as required in different market segments. He has also written articles on PCIe and has hosted tutorial videos that explain the advantages of interconnect technology in powerful system designs that need speed and versatility.

PLX offers on-chip testing capabilities in its ExpressLane PCIe switches supported by PLX’s visionPAK system debug tools like Performance Monitoring, Error Injection and Packet Generator.

Officials added that the switches also feature the ability to measure both width and height of a SerDes eye using PLX’s free software development kit (SDK). Also logic analyzer support, rapid scope view, pattern generation, and error injection are made possible by the on-chip hardware debug capabilities.

The switching products are compatible with existing equipment, and hence do not require the purchase of new and expensive test systems. The PLX SDK serves the needs of OEMs helping them launch products fast and cost effectively.
