LogMeIn Intros New Patch Management Capabilities to its Remote Access and Management Products

With an objective to simplify patch management for Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows computers, LogMeIn, Inc. announced new Windows update capabilities for Internet connected computers on its LogMeIn Pro and LogMeIn Central remote access and management product lines.

For those unaware, patch management involves acquiring, testing, and installing multiple patches to an administered computer system. A ‘patch’ in patch management refers to a piece of software designed to fix problems such as security vulnerabilities.

As a provider of cloud-based remote access, support and collaboration solutions, LogMeIn offers solutions that IT professionals can leverage to keep remote Windows-based computers up to date and secure.

According to a press release, LogMeIn (News - Alert) released the new patch management capabilities to its LogMeIn Pro and LogMeIn Central remote access and management product lines. The new patch management capabilities provide users with an end-to-end way to identify, select and apply one or more available updates, and install those Windows updates over the Internet.

Apart from supporting Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 updates, LogMeIn's new Windows patch management features also allows IT professionals and other power users to securely schedule and manage updates to off-LAN computers by utilizing the company’s cloud-based connectivity platform.

In addition to automatically enabling push updates to multiple systems consequently, the new patch management capabilities to LogMeIn’s remote access and management product lines also enables IT professionals to individually select which Microsoft updates to apply; check for Windows Updates with single click; view Update status of remote computers, instantly; and work with Windows Update or Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Consequently, IT professionals such as IT managers, Managed Service Providers (MSPs), and IT consultants can update all of their employees' as well as clients' computers in a timely, prioritized, and secure manner, regardless of location.

Available immediately at the company’s website, new versions of LogMeIn Central and LogMeIn Pro featuring the patch management capabilities are priced at $299 per year, supporting an unlimited number of users and instances of LogMeIn Pro.

The LogMeIn Pro is priced at $69 per year and the new capabilities are available as a free update to existing LogMeIn Central and LogMeInPro customers. Interested users can make use of the free 30-day trials of LogMeIn Central and LogMeIn Pro.

"Today's businesses are balancing centralized IT management with increasingly decentralized and distributed workforces. And that's adding to the inherent challenges and increasing complexity around how IT professionals test, prioritize, and manage Windows updates," said Andrew Burton (News - Alert), vice president, access and management, LogMeIn, in a statement. "By bringing together remote access and management with patch management, we are now providing our users with a simple, yet effective means of keeping remote computers secure and up to date."

According to a press release, Sinu, a managed service provider (MSP), was a beta tester for the new patch management capabilities.

As reported by TMCnet, LogMeIn recently started operations in Japan in order to expand its presence in the Asia Pacific region.
