Choice Hotels Picks Oracle WebLogic Server

Business software and hardware systems company Oracle (News - Alert) revealed that one of the largest and most successful hotel franchises, with over 6,000 hotels worldwide, has selected Oracle WebLogic Server and Oracle JRockit to power its cloud infrastructure and choiceADVANTAGE SaaS (News - Alert) application.

choiceADVANTAGE allows Choice Hotels' property owners to manage all aspects of their front desk operations, including monitoring room inventory, managing reservations and rates and tracking financial results.

"We chose Oracle WebLogic Server specifically because it is the industry standard, delivers the highest levels of availability and is the most performant application server on the market. It doesn't take a lot of hardware to run choiceADVANTAGE, which attests to how well Oracle WebLogic Server performs. We are able to do more than four million page views a day on just four servers. choiceADVANTAGE has been a very big success for us," Rain Fletcher, vice president of applications development and architecture for Choice Hotels International said in a press release.

Oracle JRockit is a comprehensive family of Java SE runtime solutions.

Choice Hotels Corporate now manage the web-based choiceADVANTAGE property management system from a central location and provide it as a lightweight Software as a Service (SaaS) application to franchisees which can substantially reduce the installation and training costs, as well as deployment time.

The choiceADVANTAGE application, as indicated, handles 4.5 million daily web requests across 4,500 properties, with the capacity to scale across Choice's portfolio of 6,000+ hotels. Choice Hotels official believe that performance and availability are key drivers of customer satisfaction. The corporation also believes that Oracle WebLogic Server is capable of offering both high application performance and high availability for choiceADVANTAGE.

Moreover, application updates were further simplified and automated using Oracle WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST), which helped eliminate errors during deployment. Additionally, Choice Hotels Corporate also said that it now leverages the Oracle WebLogic Administration Console to centrally manage servers and uses Oracle WebLogic Diagnostics Framework and Oracle JRockit Mission Control to detect and resolve problems with their application code.

With Oracle WebLogic Server, Choice Hotels has also minimized its hardware requirements, gaining the ability to complete over 100,000 check-in/check-out events daily with just four commodity servers.

In related news, the U.S. Marine Corps, one of seven uniformed services in the U.S., has implemented an integrated suite of Oracle solutions to support its supply and maintenance system, connecting Marine units in the field with supporting units to more effectively track, transport and deliver support to Marine Corps Operating Forces deployed and in garrison.
