By Calvin AzuriThe eighth annual AstriCon Open Source (News - Alert) Telephony Conference and Exhibition 2011 will include keynote presentation from Mårten Mickos. The CEO of Eucalyptus Systems, Mickos is also the former CEO of MySQL AB. AstriCon is the longest running conference devoted to the Asterisk (News - Alert) communications platform. An announcement in this regard has been made by the Asterisk Company, Digium, Inc.
The shift from traditional software stacks to the growth of open source cloud computing in the enterprise will be the focus of Mickos’ keynote. Key drivers like agility, scalability and cost will be also highlighted. The world’s open source enthusiasts will be brought together at this year’s event which will be held on October 25-27, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. Open source code developers and Asterisk integrators along with service providers will be attending the conference. Enterprise IT professionals who share an interest in Asterisk will be also present at AstriCon.
A proven technology pioneer, Mickos had transformed MySQL AB from a start-up into the second largest open source company in the world. Sun Microsystems (News
- Alert) acquired MySQL for one billion dollars. The top position in Sun’s database group was also given to Mickos. He has been recently appointed as the CEO of Eucalyptus Systems (News - Alert). The company’s open source software platform for on-premise IaaS clouds, Eucalyptus is widely deployed.
According to Bryan M. Johns, community director at Digium (News - Alert), the company is thrilled to welcome Mårten for AstriCon 2011. His insights regarding cloud computing are awaited. His views on the impact of open source on enterprises of all sizes throughout the world are also awaited. Digium has introduced Asterisk SCF project which will simplify the creation of complex communications systems. This is therefore an exciting time of growth for open source.
