Exar Samples Industry's First ODU0/ODUflex Muxponder Solution

The industry's first OTN muxponder solution has been introduced by Exar (News - Alert) Corporation. New G.709 features like ODU0/ODUflex and GMP mapping are supported by the OTN muxponder solution, MXP2 ASSP. The 8 Watts solution features low power and a 2 x 10G single chip. The solution will provide support for the newest OTN standard features. Customers will be therefore able to future-proof their networks.

There has been an increase in roll-out of packet-based networks. Data have also exploded. Support for many client signals has been therefore included in the OTN standard. The standard also includes the flexibility of mapping to different container sizes. Data traffic congestion will be therefore alleviated with these new features. The effectiveness of the networks will be also increased. With support for the new G.709 features, the MXP2 ASSP provides any service, on any port with any mapping. Support for Gigabit Ethernet, High-definition Video and SAN protocols can be now included in ROADM (News - Alert) or Edge Services product offerings of OEMs.

In a release, Rich Deboer, vice president and general manager at Exar, said, "The market has been waiting for suppliers to 'catch up' and support the multi-signal requirements they need in today's data-intensive, always-on environment. The MXP2 ASSP delivers on these requirements and as we have heard from our customers the market is ready to embrace OTN."

The highly integrated, standards based device, MXP2 ASSP is targeted at ROADM/DWDM and Edge Aggregation platforms in OTN transport applications. A wide range of protocols and frequencies are supported with the flexible client ports of the solution. Development of any service-any port line cards is therefore allowed. Similarly, a number of service specific muxponders can be consolidated into a single, flexible, universal design.

Rapid integration with minimal design effort is possible as the MXP2 comes standard with Exar's DeviceManager software package. All internal hardware provisioning are handled by the DeviceManager. Management details are also handled by the DeviceManager. Customers can also use the robust set of APIs presented by the DeviceManager. OS independence, integrated tools, interrupt management, state management, resource pool management and warm start are some of the software features included in the DeviceManager.
