BIRT Improves Market Share with More Than 10 Million Downloads

Actuate (News - Alert) Corporation, an open source Business Intelligence (BI) provider, announced that BIRT is the top choice for open source BI.

The open source BIRT projects have gained market share in the recent past as many organizations are selecting BIRT for deployments. There are more than one million BIRT developers worldwide and more than 10 million downloads have helped organizations.

BIRT has proven that open source Business Intelligence is an alternative to popular proprietary technologies, company officials said.“With so many leading companies backing BIRT it has been proven as a high caliber BI technology, fit for any BI deployment style,” said Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of Marketing at Actuate, in a statement. “BIRT has emerged as the unequivocal leader in open source BI, industry analysts, leading organizations and Actuate’s own financials echo this fact.”

For instance, the Forrester (News - Alert) Wave recognized Actuate and its value added offerings for BIRT as a leader in the August 2010 Open Source (News - Alert) Business Intelligence report.

The Forrester Wave report rated Actuate as a leader based on the company’s pure play BI application and highly scalable, function-rich reporting.

The second annual Wisdom of Crowds Business Intelligence Market Study also recognized Actuate as the top performing open source BI vendor. Conducted by Howard Dresner’s independent advisory firm, Dresner Advisory Services, the results found that Actuate BIRT outperformed other open source BI vendors to secure the leading open source overall ranking.

Leading organizations like Bank of East Asia, Bosch Software Innovation GmbH, Cisco (News - Alert) Systems, Computer Associates, HSBC, Infor Global and Reporting House have already adopted BIRT. Organizations are using BIRT to embed BI within a wider application experience, deploy BI in cloud and virtualized environments and create custom BI applications including mobile BI applications.

Recently, Actuate announced the launch of Xenos Enterprise Server 3.0 (ES 3.0) for output management. ES 3.0 offers both document and data transformation services aimed at enabling enterprises to lower operational costs and complexity and improve customer service.
