Gluster Working with Linux Foundation

Gluster, a provider of open source storage solutions for public, private and hybrid clouds, announced that it is now a member of the Linux Foundation (News - Alert) and will help in the development and support of storage for Linux-based solutions.

The Linux Foundation is a non-profit organization that serves as a neutral spokesperson for Linux, while generating original research and content that advances the understanding of the Linux platform.

Gluster is a software-only, highly available, scalable, centrally managed storage pool for public and private cloud environments. It supports users’ move to public, private and hybrid cloud environments by offering a wide range of automation integration with file and object storage.

According to the company, GlusterFS is at the core of its scale-out storage solutions. GlusterFS is an open source, distributed file system capable of scaling to several petabytes and handling thousands of clients. Based on a stackable user space design, it is tweaked to offer exceptional performance for diverse workloads.

Gluster officials claimed that the company was dedicated to creating an open source storage solution. Gluster fully supports the open source development, unified resources and the extensive services provided by Linux. The company is pleased to be the newest member of the Linux Foundation, expanding their work with Linux and the open source communities.

Some of the features and benefits customers get to enjoy from Gluster are: software only virtual storage appliances; on-premise, public, or private clouds; elastically scale on demand; scale-out on commodity hardware; only scale-out NAS for Amazon Web Services (News - Alert); and scale from terabytes to petabytes.

Linux Foundation acknowledged that Gluster understands and supports how crucial Linux and open source offerings are to the success of many technologies like cloud computing, for instance. By joining the Linux Foundation, Gluster is helping to advance the role of Linux and open source software in the enterprise.
