Avaya and Cross Help Xcel Energy Center Deploy Reliable Infrastructure for NHL Draft

Avaya (News - Alert), a provider of business collaboration and communications solutions and Cross Telecom, an Avaya National Platinum Business Partner, announced that they helped the Xcel Energy Center deploy a reliable infrastructure for the NHL Draft, a communications intensive event, as participants streamed into the center to name their picks for the future of the sport.

As part of the advance team, Avaya and Cross Telecom asserted that they made sure that when there were seconds to negotiate a change in pick order or execute a trade, communication moved faster than a puck on ice.

Officials with the Xcel Energy Center claimed that the Draft is a very large IT event – they have networks that allow people at tables to communicate via Internet, email, and telephone. They can communicate from table to table, to the outside world, to professional scouts able to answer questions about trades, and even to other people in the industry. The infrastructure is critical, but for 365 days of the year prior to the event, having phones and a redundant and reliable network on the arena floor doesn’t exist.

Both Avaya and Cross offered a multi-disciplined plan that met the needs for a critical – albeit temporary – infrastructure and it was up and running in a matter of days.
