AVG Publishes Global Community Powered Threat Report - Q2-2011

Offering insight, background and analysis on the trends and developments in the global threat landscape, AVG Technologies, a provider of internet and mobile security, has unveiled “AVG Community Powered Threat Report – Q2 2011”.

Using premium SMS and fake apps, cyber crooks are increasingly using mobile malware to monetize. Monetizing techniques via mobile are much easier to operate than those in use on PC. The software distribution is easy and scalable by spamming users to download apps or simply posting them on download stores or markets. According to report, 32.9 percent of Spam messages originated from the USA followed by the United Kingdom with 3.9 percent.

“The World Wide Web might as well be re-branded as the World Wild Web. Our research indicates that hundreds of live servers operating around the world are active 24/7 to steal users’ credentials for online banking and other private assets,” said Yuval Ben-Itzhak (News - Alert), Chief Technology Officer, AVG Technologies. “As attack techniques of hackers continue to get more advanced, users need to take action. Security products, with multi-layers of protection, are a must have.”

‘Trusted malware’ is continuing to grow at an alarming rate, the report stated. Before being distributed by hackers, AVG’s Threat Labs have seen an increase in the number of stolen digital certificates used to sign malware in Q2. Compared to the whole of 2010, the practice of trusting signed files is rapidly losing its strength with a significant increase of over 300 percent was identified at the start of 2011, the company stated in a press release.

In October 2010, the company introduced its AVG Internet Security 2011 Business Edition and AVG Anti-Virus 2011 Business Edition. Both the solutions are a part of company’s latest business level anti-virus and Internet security suite, which has specifically been designed to offer ease of use and maximum protection to small business owners who are short on time and resources. This helped small and medium sized business owners to enjoy robust protection against various threats.
