Express Metrix Launches New Venture to Address Software Identification Dilemma

Express Metrix, a known player in the field of IT and software asset management solutions announced a new venture, called Apptria Technologies.

In a press release, Apptria technologies said that the new venture will be focused on delivering reliable and trustworthy software recognition capabilities to its partners, so that they can increase the value and utility of their own technology offerings to customers.

It took 15 years to develop the Apptria Software Catalog, Express Metrix revealed in the release. The catalogue is now being offered by Apptria Technologies as its core product offering.

Providing application recognition capabilities for over 15 million corporate and public sector PCs across the globe, the catalog is the industry's most extensive database of commercial applications, Express Metrix claimed in the release. The product has been designed to enable accurate identification of software installed and used across corporate networks, a capability vital for effectively managing software licenses, and performing countless other critical desktop management functions. It is the same database that powers the software identification within Express Metrix's own award-winning asset management solution, Express Software Manager.

“IT departments are struggling to track and manage software, and they expect asset management tools to provide accurate, comprehensive, and trustworthy software recognition. Given the growing interest in our software catalog among ISVs and other solution providers, we realized it would be beneficial not only to ourselves, but also to those who license the database, to create an entity that's exclusively devoted to the OEM side of our business. The new venture will focus exclusively on ensuring the present and future success of our partners, and Express Metrix will remain committed to serving its end user customers,” Apptria Technologies co-founder Kris Barker, explained in a statement.

The Apptria Software Catalog obtained license from some of the world's top asset management vendors including IBM, New Boundary Technologies, Numara Software, BMC, Amando Software, FAST Ltd., and LANDesk (News - Alert). Maintained by a dedicated team of researchers, the database grows daily through contributions from its extensive network of end users, as well as data provided by software publishers, the sources at the company maintained. The future plan involves expanding the software catalog, as well as related technologies, to augment its value as a strategic asset to the industry and to those partners that utilize it.

In February this year, FAST (News - Alert) Ltd, a subsidiary of UK's largest private software house, IRIS, inked a deal with Express Metrix to integrate its technology into the latter’s growing portfolio of Software Asset Management (SAM) and IT compliance solutions. The new deal was designed to provide FAST customers with the tools and information they needed to stay compliant with license agreements, eliminate spending on unused software, manage hardware inventory, and track and report on IT purchases.
