By Ashok BindraContent delivery network (CDN) and site acceleration service provider Cotendo has raised $17 million in a new round of funding that included new investors. As a result, total funds received since inception reached $39 million. According to Cotendo, the new funds will be used to further extend the technology leadership in the enterprise application delivery market, to innovate in accelerating mobile content to end-users, and to significantly expand market presence in fast growing regions around the world.
New strategic investors in this round of funding include Citrix Systems (News
- Alert) and Juniper Networks. Existing venture backers in this round were Sequoia, Benchmark and Tenaya Capital. Citrix and Juniper, market leaders in their respective industries, join the growing ranks of Cotendo strategic partners, including AT&T (News
- Alert), Google and Sumitomo, said Cotendo.
Their participation is further validation that Cotendo’s unique acceleration services are solving a critical need in the market for enterprise customers, service providers and network operators, said the content acceleration provider.
“Cotendo is the innovation leader in accelerating sophisticated content and applications over the Internet, Mobile and from the cloud, which perfectly complements the Citrix portfolio of cloud networking and virtualization solutions,” said Citrix CTO Simon Crosby, in a statement. “The powerful combination of our complementary technologies will address the pressing needs of enterprise customers for the acceleration of cloud-based and mobile applications, and produce significant new business opportunities for both companies.”
According to Cotendo, the synergy between the services and technologies of Citrix Systems and Cotendo blend on-premise physical and virtual appliances, content acceleration and cloud services that will accelerate and optimize delivery from the end user all the way to the enterprise over distributed networks, thereby improving end user experience from any location to any device.
Likewise, commented Manoj Leelanivas, executive vice president and general manager, Junos Application Software Business Group at Juniper Networks (News
- Alert), “Our customers have an ever increasing need for a diverse set of capabilities in their mobile and wired network infrastructure.”
He added, “Innovative CDN providers such as Cotendo can help meet such needs by bringing value-added software services to market more quickly, leveraging the Junos Platform and Juniper Media Flow Solution.”
The relationship between Juniper Networks and Cotendo will address the demand of service providers for technologies that will enable them to offer value added services and over-the-top services to content providers, Cotendo said.
Recently, Cotendo also launched its new Mobile Acceleration Suite (MAS) for delivering reliable and high-performance acceleration for content to any device on any network in any location in the world.
