GoGrid Talks IPv6 and Hosted Private Cloud Offering with TMCnet

Leading cloud infrastructure leader GoGrid had some news to spread at Cloud Expo East 2011 last week, including the fact that Compuware (News - Alert) Corporation is using its cloud infrastructure to run the industry's first free IPv6 Website Performance Comparison Test.

In recognition of World IPv6 Day, GoGrid announced that the Compuware project is one of the first to leverage GoGrid's IPv6 infrastructure.

"One of the key enablers for IPv6 adoption is the supporting Internet infrastructure," said Steve Tack, Chief Technology Officer of Compuware's APM (News - Alert) Business Unit, in a statement. "With GoGrid's IPv6 Cloud, Compuware can help companies that want to easily compare the performance of their IPv4 and IPv6 websites."

At Cloud Computing, GoGrid was not only spreading the word about its IPv6 infrastructure, but Executive Chariman and Founder John Keagy was also holding a session on the economics of cloud computing. Keagy told TMCnet at Cloud Expo that his session explored what drives the economics of the cloud and what people assume drives the cloud that does not. For example, despite common beliefs, large scale data centers do not power the cloud and blade servers are not relevant to driving the economics of the cloud.

Keagy also touched on upcoming cloud trends, particularly on how the IT economy will shrink.

“We are at the peak of complexity and cost for IT and IT will become a whole lot simpler an that’s because of cloud computing,” Keagy told TMCnet.

“Humans don’t run infrastructure anymore; labor has been automated,” he added.

So what’s next on tap for GoGrid, a company that enables sysadmins, developers, and IT professionals to create, deploy, and control cloud environments and complex virtual and physical server networks with full administrative control?

Global expansion and attention particularly around private cloud.

In fact, the company currently offers the first private cloud run by public cloud technology which offers programmability, scalability and lower cost. GoGrid's Hosted Private Cloud solution enables Equinix (News - Alert) customers to deploy the capabilities of scalable compute power, virtual server images, load-balanced infrastructure, private networking and elastic storage in a completely dedicated and secure environment – all with no hardware procurement or resource sharing.

An enterprise-grade solution, GoGrid's Hosted Private Cloud service is built for service providers, financial institutions and businesses that require a private cloud environment, according to company officials.

“It’s a one-of-a kind offering,” Keagy said.
