Data Devices International Launches MediaVise Hard Disk Drive Crusher

The MediaVise Hard Disk Drive Crusher is a desktop destroyer which has been developed to crush, break, mangle, and destroy hard disk drives, cell phones, pagers, and PDAs among other electronics to guarantee information contained within is not accessible.

Devices which are subject to this extensive destruction process are physically destroyed and changed and are easy to identify and isolate for disposal.

In a release, David Partridge, President of Data Devices International, Inc. said that “At the touch of a button, the MediaVise patent-pending crushing plates deliver a staggering 33,000 pounds of force per square inch to the drive platters, electronic memory chips, and read heads of the drive. This new design concept completely destroys the internal platter and all electronics for complete data security.”

Organizations and individuals have to be careful about how they discard any data-carrying material. Setting up of security laws like the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act has added to the risk.

The MediaVise Hard Disk Drive Crusher is operator friendly and easy to use. When using the drive crusher, the operator drops the drive into the feed slot, and the machine automatically inserts the drive into the crushing mechanism. Once the drive has been completely destroyed, it then drops freely into the crushed media receptacle for disposal. When the "catch basket" is full, the operator receives a notification to empty it.

All kinds of magnetic storage devices including computer hard disk drives, cell phones, flash drives, typically hold huge amounts of sensitive and personal information. This can be dangerous as any financial information of individuals, companies, financial institutions, government organizations, military installations, and credit card processors can be misutilized.

The entire MediaVise destruction process has been completely automated and has been developed to meet government specifications for data destruction.

Identity theft and fraud present real time danger to individuals and organizations alike. It has been estimated that in 2009 alone, more than 11 million identities were stolen which resulted in financial losses of over $54 Billion. By physically destroying drives, the device is rendered useless for any kind of functioning. This is one sure way of ensuring that data cannot be retrieved. The MediaVise Hard Disk Drive Crusher is quiet, smooth and vibration free and can be plugged into a normal wall socket for office use.
