By Ashok BindraThis week at the IBM Innovate 2011 (June 5-9) in Orlando, Fl., open source management solutions provider Protecode (News - Alert) announced that its IBM Rational Integrated product successfully completed “Ready for IBM (News
- Alert) Rational Software” technical validation for Build Analyzer. As a result, Build Analyzer, a component of Protecode’s System 4 complete license management solution, now seamlessly integrates with Rational Team Concert.
The easy-to-install integration provides IBM Rational development teams with an efficient, user-friendly and automated tool for managing open source and third party code throughout the increasingly collaborative software development cycle, said Protecode.
In a statement, Kamal Hassin, vice president of product management at Protecode said, “Development teams are evolving into workgroups. They are becoming more decentralized and use multiple platforms. Protecode Build Analyzer software license management capabilities, coupled with collaborative capabilities of Rational Team Concert now allows development teams to easily confirm compliance to open source licensing obligations before shipping their products.”
Likewise, Mike Loria, vice president of IBM Rational Business Development, stated, “Compliance with open source licensing obligations is becoming increasingly important across industries.”
He further added, “The Protecode Build Analyzer extends the processes of Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management to include License management, which is an integral part of software and systems development.”
According to Protecode, working closely with IBM Rational Team Concert, Build Analyzer ensures that unwanted open source or other third party code is not included in products that are shipped to customers. Build Analyzer monitors the build process tool (such as Apache’s Ant), and creates a list of files that are used during the build (after the pre-processing stage), said the supplier. It then analyzes the files that are used in the build process. Build Analyzer is light weight, making it easy to integrate into an already existing software development process, Protecode said.
