TDS Confirms Completion of Data Center Relocation for Varian Semiconductor

Consulting and IT services company Transitional Data Services (TDS) completed a data center relocation project for Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (VSEA).

Company official said in a press release that this relocation effort included the complete de-installation, moving and re-installation of all mission critical and infrastructure devices in three separate move events over a 3 month period.

TDS said that it was able to complete this data center move on-schedule and with zero equipment failures by leveraging the power of its Transition Manager Relocation tool and experience gained from over 1 million square feet of data center projects, and eventually assuring complete customer satisfaction.

Transition Manager is a purpose-built tool from TDS designed specifically to manage complex data center relocation projects.

"Transition Manager's real-time asset management gave both TDS and Varian visibility into all move events as they were happening," Tim Schutt, principal and vice president of Data Center Relocations at TDS said in a press release.

"In addition, Varian used the TranMan tool to manage the movement of other less critical systems on their own using TDS proven methodology with their own local staf.," Schutt added.

VSEA designs, manufactures, and services semiconductor processing equipment used in the fabrication of integrated circuits. The company’s IT staff is said to have given TDS high marks for this successful project.

TDS's asset barcode scanning allowed Transition Manager to track Varian's assets during all stages of the move. By utilizing laser barcode scanners, the move technicians on the floor updated status in real time as each uniquely identified asset was tracked throughout the move. IT managers at Varian used this information to dynamically allocate labor resources to assure the immediate restoration of mission-critical systems.

"TDS's Pre-move activities and planning as well as their scheduling and equipment reviews turned out to be well worth the time and effort as we never missed a deadline and all the move events actually ended ahead of schedule. The thoroughness of the team was very impressive," said VSEA official.
