- Alert) Technology Group has been in Israel since the acquisition of Galileo Technologies in 2001. To further accelerate the company’s research and development activities in mobile communications and system-on-chip technologies, the company is planning to invest another $200 million in the Israeli R&D arm. This was reported on Sunday on the Yahoo News! site.
Commenting on the new Marvell investment, Marvell Israel’s general manager Yossi Meyouhas said, “Recently, Israel has faced new, expanded international competition. While these new challenges are essential in stimulating global progress in technology, it is critical that organizations invest to ensure Israel remains a recognized leader in R&D and technology innovation,” wrote Yahoo News!.
Although Marvell’s official headquarters are in Bermuda, the fables semiconductor company effectively operates from Santa Clara, Calif., and has two R&D locations in Israel –Yokneam and Petah Tikva. In Israel, the company employs more than 1,200 people out of a global work force of 5,800.
Last week, the supplier announced the availability of a highly optimized, manufacturing-ready 40 watt equivalent LED lamp reference design kit. This reference design kit uses Philips (News - Alert) Lumileds’ 40 watt equivalent LED light bulb based on the Marvell 88EM8081 Digital Flyback PFC Controller with patented adaptive control-loop design and an innovative digital signal processing (DSP) solution, as well as the newly announced LUXEON A LED.
The lamp is designed to consume 6.5 W power to deliver 475 lm at 3,000 K CCT with color reading indicator (CRI) great than 80. The LED reference design works with universal AC voltage input with 0.99 power factor and under 10 percent total harmonic distortion.
According to Marvell, these turnkey LED solutions have undergone rigorous pre-testing, a process that typically takes OEMs four-to-six months, significantly reducing lighting manufacturers time-to-market. The designs also meet critical environmental and regulatory specifications, as well as safety requirements.
With an annual revenue of $3.59 billion, Marvell was ranked as the fourth largest fables semiconductor supplier in 2010.
