Jimdo Free Website Creation Tool Now Optimized for Mobile

Jimdo.com, the global free website creation tool, announced it optimized all its sites for mobile.

Following the mobile optimization, four million Jimdo websites have become mobile friendly. Customers can view these sites on their iPhones and Android (News - Alert) phones. The mobile versions were generated automatically.

Additionally, all 40,000 online stores offer a mobile store with mobile checkout. Examples of these stores can be found at the company’s website.

“We think it is important to be out in front of the mobile revolution,” said Christian Springub, co-founder of Jimdo, in a statement. “Starting today, all JimdoPages have a mobile-friendly view for optimal display on iPhones, Androids, and other smartphones.”

The free website creation tool company has integrated the native applications of the phones wherever it makes sense. When a visitor clicks on a Google (News - Alert) Map in a mobile JimdoPage, the native phone's Google Maps app opens.

Jimdo  created the mobile – and mobile commerce – friendly feature because many users in Asia and the U.S. already have smartphones. The company is expecting mobile commerce to grow quickly as a key differentiator.

Jimdo has four million users in Europe, Asia, and South America. The site ranks No.774 in overall on Alexa worldwide. The free tool website is in the top 500 sites in 15 countries. According to Quantcast (News - Alert), Jimdo's site reached about 10 million people monthly worldwide with over 100 million impressions.

A TechCrunch report said Jimdo will soon announce Dropbox (News - Alert) integration, enhancing the website building application with a digital file center in the cloud.
