Wazco and Collaborators Launch First Multi-Sector LTE Metrocell at the LTE World Summit 2011

Wazco launched the industry’s first multi-sector small-cell base station family for LTE (News - Alert) network operators, MetroStorm and MetroStorm Cluster at the LTE World Summit 2011. The products were developed in collaboration with Interphase Corporation, AirHop (News - Alert) Communications, and DataSoft Corporation, leaders in advanced, heterogeneous LTE networking components.

In a press release, Mike Nasco, CEO and co-founder, Wazco, said, “Wazco’s groundbreaking LTE MetroStorm provides everything needed to quickly deliver a first-of-its-kind, high-performance, well-differentiated small-cell base station to the LTE mobile-infrastructure market. Bringing these industry leaders together provides a truly innovative, self-contained, self-organizing, self-optimizing, street-level network element.”

The multi-Sector MetroStorm has a single self-contained fully-integrated enclosure which hoists up to 4 coordinated sectors, powered via standard interfaces available on street lights, power poles or other similar devices. It includes a single self-contained fully-integrated enclosure, hosting up to 4 coordinated sectors, powered via standard interfaces available on street lights, power poles or other similar devices.

Greg Kalush, president and CEO, Interphase, said, “We are pleased to be providing the core of the Wazco MetroStorm via the highly customizable Interphase (News - Alert) iSPAN 36701 baseband module, enabling rapid development via streamlined integration. Built on the award-winning Mindspeed Transcede baseband processor with field-proven pre-integrated protocol stack software, Interphase platforms are a perfect match for Wazco’s aggressive deployment timeline.”

Yan Hui, CEO and co-founder, AirHop, said, “Wazco’s multi-sector clustered approach is a perfect illustration of the need for advanced dynamic real-time intra-sector/intra-base station RAN intelligence. AirHop’s eSON technology allows the active mitigation of the types of real-world operating issues that typically hamper unplanned small cells in field deployments. Wazco’s eSON-powered MetroCells are collaterally deployment-friendly, OPEX (News - Alert)-friendly, and designed to minimize operator churn.”

Vik Patel, CEO, DataSoft, said, “DataSoft enables Wazco to dramatically reduce development costs and time-to-market for the critical RF front-end with hardware derived from our innovative RF transceiver portfolio of tunable RF filters, software defined radio (SDR) and cognitive radio (CR) technologies.”

Wazco was in news recently when the company selected Interphase LTE Module for New multi-sector MetroStorm MetroCells.
