Release 11 Service Pack 1 Strengthening the ActuateOne Platform

Actuate (News - Alert) Corporation , a supplier of a Business Intelligence technology platform and the brains behind  BIRT , marks the general availability of release 11, Service Pack 1 (SP1), further strengthening the ActuateOne Platform – a complete BI solution built on BIRT.

The release of SP1 follows the adoption of ActuateOne by customers and partners worldwide making it the most rapidly adopted release in Actuate’s history. This momentum has accelerated the ActuateOne vision of redefining the BI category by moving away from a set of disparate tools to a suite of integrated capabilities – powered by one server, based on a single BIRT design and providing a unified experience for every end user.

Release 11 SP1 includes more than 40 major enhancements, extending the value of the Actuate BIRT product suite for better data access, charting, output format, dash boarding and analytic capabilities. It comes with a data connector for e.Report customers to create BIRT-based, rich BI and information applications by leveraging e.Report documents as data sources. BIRT 360 dashboard print supports enable business users to print snapshots of their dashboards and collaborate with other users. Improved charting includes support for radar charts that enables multiple series to be rendered allowing for easy comparison of related data. It has been equipped with new JSAPI classes to enable seamless integration of BIRT 360 dashboards into existing web applications.

“It has been gratifying to see the level of excitement, engagement and rapid adoption of release 11 by our customers and partners,” said Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of the marketing at Actuate. “Along with enabling us to deliver SP1 quickly, the feedback we’ve received has validated our compelling vision going forward for the Business Intelligence market. The explosion of data along with the need for economic efficiencies are driving the need for quick time to market and the ability to grow with success.’’

Since the announcement, ActuateOne, along with release 11, has generated significant new business including downloads by over 200 companies with thousands of users. Leading organizations in banking, insurance, federal, state and municipal government, multinationals, technology and manufacturing as well as other software vendors who OEM ActuateOne have now downloaded ActuateOne. First to market adopters of the product include ChemWare, The National Airway Systems Engineering group of the Federal Aviation Administration and Sacramento Municipal Utility District. Customers have embraced the 64 bit in-memory analytics, user configurable dashboards, comprehensive virtualization capabilities for hybrid, on-premise or cloud deployment and the flexible work unit licensing model that was first introduced with release 11.

According to an April 2011 report by Forrester (News - Alert) Research Inc. entitled “Software Pricing And Licensing Trends 2011”: “Actuate offers a very different approach with its Work Units metric. This business intelligence software provider lets customers license a specific number of simultaneous process requests to the server, in addition to per-user and per-core options. Those with more intensive users will get more value from the product, and therefore need to buy more work units, or they can choose to accept slower performance as process requests wait in line.”
